Thought to share a story of a saint who lived in the 19th century A.D. His Grace, known to his devotees as Guard Sahab Ji, was an Avhoodth-Param Bhakt — a hardcore devotee of Lord Krishna and Shrimati Radha Rani. Born in Ambala, Haryana, he performed dhyanam, deep meditation, every single day to experience the transcendental love of Lord Krishna.
We may not be able to portray his love for the Lord, nor his holy relationship with the Lord himself. Parampoojya Sadhguru Guard Sahab Ji never wanted his disciples to mention or write his name anywhere. We humbly seek his forgiveness for having done so here, as we only wish to share a glimpse of the miracles he experienced.
Guard Sahab Ji used to work as a Guard in Railways — and hence the name. One fine day, so deeply immersed in meditation, he missed going to work. When he opened his eyes, he rushed to the railway station at Mughalsarai, only to find that the train had already departed — with Guard Sahab Ji as the Guard.
He was astonished. Employees urged that it was indeed him who had come, signed off, and flagged the train. On seeing Guard Sahab Ji in person, they could not believe what they saw. Immediately, Guard Sahab Ji and a few others boarded the next train to Lucknow.
At Lucknow, they were told that the Guard on the previous train had carried out his work impeccably, and taken Rs. 10 from his pocket saying: "A few people are coming for me — they will be hungry, buy them food."
It was then that Guard Sahab Ji realised — it was Lord Krishna who had impersonated him. The Holy Divine had come to rescue his devotee, adorning himself with the Guard's uniform in place of his heavenly crown. Through Guard Sahab Ji, we came to know of one such leela of the Lord.
Devoted Shishya · Chandigarh
श्री डुग्गल बाबा
Shri Duggal Baba was the beloved shishya of Param Pujya Guard Sahab Maharaj Ji. A man of deep devotion and humble service, he spent his worldly life as a school headmaster, retiring from a government school in Chandigarh — yet his truest identity was always that of a loving disciple at the feet of his Gurudev.
It is to Shri Duggal Baba that we owe an eternal debt of gratitude. He had the rare privilege and foresight to capture the only known photograph of Guard Sahab Maharaj Ji — taken at his home in the 1950s. This single, precious image is the only glimpse the world has of the Param Bhakt, and it exists solely because of Duggal Baba's deep love for his Guru.
Shri Duggal Baba blessed all of us by sharing his most precious jewel — Guard Sahab Maharaj Ji himself — with the world. His devotion to his Gurudev was boundless, and as a further gift to humanity, he composed the Shri Krishna Chalisa, so that devotees everywhere could recite the glories of the Lord.
